Hi All,

It’s with great sadness to announce that two of the Centre’s Past Presidents, Terry Humphris and Don McIntosh, have passed away.

Leonard John Trenery (Terry) Humphris
Terry Humphris was the Founding President of the Waverley Little Athletics Centre. Terry worked for the ANZ bank and his family lived in Geelong, where his daughter Dianne participated in the early years of Little Athletics before the family relocated to Mount Waverley. Once relocated, Terry was instrumental in organising and setting up the formation of a Little Athletics Centre in Glen Waverley, working with the local schools to organise local clubs that later became affiliated with and formed the Waverley Centre.

Terry was President from 1968 until 1972, although according to the local newspaper article during the 70/71 season, he took a half season break for “domestic reasons”. Terry also looked after and organised the Mount Waverley club.

Terry passed away on 21st January 2016, age 90. His wife Ethel, passed away on 25th September 2012, age 89. Both survived by their 3 daughters and granddaughter.

Donald Cameron McIntosh
Don McIntosh JP was the second Centre President, for a brief period of time during the 1970/71 season. He was on the 1969/70 Committee as Equipment Manager, the year prior I am uncertain. I’m unsure whether Don’s children participated in the Little Athletics Competition or whether Don was part of the committee as a local community volunteer. I know he had involvement in various other local clubs and their formations.

Don was a former Councillor, serving on the former Waverley City Council, prior to it's amalgamation by the State Government into it's current format, the Monash City Council.

He was elected in 1971 and served as Councillor from 1971/80 and again from 1982/90. Don was Waverley Mayor in 1974/75 and again in 1984/85.

Don passed away on 5th August 2017, age unknown. He is survived by his three children and their families.
