Cross Country Calenar 2021 (Updated 31/03/2021)Little Athletics
Little Athletics is a Centre based Track & Field competition for children aged between 5 and 15. For more details check out What is Little Athletics?
Waverley Little Athletics Centre is based at Central Reserve Athletics Track in Glen Waverley, is affiliated with Little Athetics Victoria and is part of the Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR). Not near Glen Waverley? Find your nearest Centre.
Because Little Athletics is a totally voluntary organisation, the Centre cannot operate without the assistance of parents each week in fulfilling the many and varied duties required. These include officiating at an event; managing an age group; recording results; working in the canteen; to name just a few. Additional assistance is always required on the Centre committees and all parents are encouraged to become involved. Little Athletics is one of the few sports where parents can become fully involved in their child's sporting interests.

Cross Country Calenar 2021 (Updated 31/03/2021)31/03/2021 - Trophy pick up / Cross Country
Dear Waverley families,
Thanks to all those who came to our presentation night on Sat 20th March – I hope you all had a great time.
For those who could not make it, I will be at the clubrooms on Thursday afternoon from 4pm – 5pm, for trophy pick up. All athletes receive a trophy and certificate. Or please contact me for alternative arrangements or pick up them up when we start back towards the end of the year.
Finally Cross Country Information:
For those interested, the cross country season starts Sat 17th April at Koomba Park, 9 am. We participate in the program organized by Knox Little Aths Centre. SherbrookeLAC also joins in and little athletes from other centres may appear. Your registration fee covers cross country as well.
We need a cross country coordinator – to liase with Knox Little Aths centre, be a contact for our athletes at the Sat morning cross country runs, promote and be team manager at region (we are in Southern Metro Region) and state cross country events.
I have attached the cross country dates and locations. More information on the KnoxLAC website: http://klac23.org.au/wordpress/?page_id=80
The races start at 9 am sharp, each week the age group who starts changes. U6 races are always in the middle.
Distances: U6 500m, U7 & U8 1000m, U9 & U10 1500m, U11 & U12 2000m, U13 to U16 3000m. Each race has two age groups and boys and girls run together. Occasionally there is a parent's race !!
Bring spare clothes if wet.
When you first arrive, check in at the Waverley flag or go straight to the start of the race when called. There is NO need to go to the Knox registration tent. Make sure you wear your registration patches. Temporary patches can be obtained from us at the Waverley flag.
There are adult runners from Knox who are hares – run in front of the kids and tortoises – who run behind to make sure kids are not left behind. So our athletes are well looked after during the races. Parents cheer from the sidelines. Also compulsory to run in your age group.
Each family is required to do one duty during the cross country season for the morning. Knox cross country committee members are the ones getting up early in the cold wet mornings to set up the courses for us, and we need to do our one duty each week.
Finally if you would like to be included in the weekly cross country email, please let me know, so I can include you on the list.
Let me know if you have any queries.
Thanks
Katy

25/03/2021 - Wrap up from AGM last weekend
Dear WLAC Members,
I would like to convey a huge thank you to everyone that attended our Annual General Meeting and Presentation Night last Saturday, 20th March. Your show of support is very much appreciated and it made for a great weekend.
Thank you to the outgoing 2020/21 Committee for your services over the past 12 months. Congratulations on a successful season.
Several new members stepped up at the AGM and joined the Committee. Thank you for your support in running the Centre and ensuring our future success. There is now a good mixture of old and new faces on the Committee. Introducing your new Committee below:
2021/22 Committee
Position | Person |
---|---|
President | Dylan Cooper |
Vice President | Caitlin Brusco |
Secretary | Timo Brouwer |
Treasurer | Shirley Desa |
Registrar | Neetasha Dobson |
Arena Manager | Vacant |
Equipment Manager | Bryan Milne |
Coaching Manager | Katy Smith |
Website Manager | Matthew Greensmith |
Results Manager | Penny Siega |
Centre Mentor | Caitlin Brusco |
Publicity Manager | Vacant |
General Committee | Peter McCusker |
General Committee | Derek Kums |
As you can see, we managed to fill most Committee Positions at the AGM, after 2-3 rounds of calling for nominations from the floor. Special thanks to everyone that spoke at the meeting, including Matt Fregon MP, in an effort to encourage members to join the Committee.
As you can also see, there are two positions that remain vacant that we need to fill. There are several other positions that we can consider adding to the Committee as required if anyone is interested and we will also appoint any other parents that would be interested in joining as a General Committee Member. Joining the Committee does not require much effort, it does not take up too much of your time, we try to have a Committee Meeting once a month, keep in touch via email and throughout the winter it's very quiet. Being part of our Committee is a very rewarding experience, you contribute to running a voluntary organisation and make a lot of new life long friends. Many hands make light work and heading into the 2021/22 season, we need all hands on deck.
If anyone is interested in becoming a Committee Member, please contact me directly.
Finally, Cross Country is coming up very soon - more information will be sent out as soon as possible, in the meantime keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for information.
Kind Regards,
Dylan Cooper
