MORE ADULTS

Besides the increasing numbers of competitors, there is an increasing number of adult officials. It takes at least 100 adults to run a meeting of 500 to 1000 competitors. There are numerous jobs that have to be done, both in the clubs and in the Centre.

Though many of the centre's needs have already been supplied by Thorold Merritt, who has advanced credit besides donating a trophy, and the Egg Board, the national sponsors, who, with the ANZ Bank also donate a trophy, the clubs need equipment which can not be afforded.

Much equipment already has been purchased, and other equipment must be purchased immediately, such as extra high jump sets etc.

The Waverley centre executive who run the meetings urgently need four walkie-talkies or transceivers and two loud hailers.

Donations of these items would be greatly appreciated, and acknowledged. Long-term loans would be appreciated as an alternative, until the items can be purchased. Fold chairs are also required. Anyone desiring to donate or lend any of these items may contact the Waverley Little Athletics public relations officer, Don Whitelock, 15 Ivanhoe St., Glen Waverley, 232 8517.

Meetings are held at 9-12 Saturday mornings. Age groups are under 8 to under 12. The clubs are Essex Heights, Glen Heights, Glen Waverley, Holy Family, Mt. Waverley, Panther, St. Christopher, St. Leonard's, Syndal, Syndal North, Syndal South and Waverley North.

Events at present being conducted are 70 and 100 metre sprints, 60 and 70 metre hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot putt and discus.

As the centre develops, more events will be added - 200, 400, 800, 1500m runs and 800 and 1500m walks.

Progressive total points are: Essex Heights 115,882 (boys 75,533, girls 40,349); Glen Heights 96,723 (48,855, 47,868); Glen Waverley 134,234 (84,800, 49,434); Holy Family 129,143 (80,060, 49,083); Mount Waverley 157,380 (89,273, 68,107); Panther 106,873 (82,803, 24,070); St. Christopher's 134,481 (82,939, 51,542); Saint Leonard's 141,030 (74,551, 66,499); Syndal 117,923 (66,395, 51,528); Syndal North 104,637 (70,170, 34,467); Syndal South 153,671 (83,534, 70,137); Waverley North 103,117 (69,084, 34,033)
