News - 2015/2016
Hello all and welcome to the report for the State Championships held last weekend, at Casey Fields in Cranbourne.
The weather conditions on the weekend were great on Sunday, although a cold and blustery wind on Saturday created a massive headwind in the front straight for the athletes.
Over the course of the weekend our athletes performed very well and we won a few medals. It was awesome to see our youngest athletes in the U9s, Jimmy O'Mara and Luke Cooke, experience their first taste of state level competition. I'm pleased to say that both boys did very well, both collecting a bronze medal each, in Shot Put and High Jump respectively. Please see the full report attached of who competed and how they performed.
Sophie O'Sullivan was our best performed athlete, as she collected a gold, a silver and a bronze from her 4 events. I think fatigue was a factor in her not medalling in the 400m, her final event. Other notable performances were Spencer Storan (a gut busting silver in the 400m), Caeden Parkinson's bronze in the 60mh, Finlay Rennie's 4th in the Javelin, Dalton Di Medio's slashing run from lane 8 to finish 5th in the 400m, Koen Beh's 5th in Javelin and Kobi Watts throwing a big PB to finish 5th in the Discus (excuse the self indulgence on that last one!)
Liam O'Rourke won bronze in the U11 Boys 1500m walk, the performance magnified by Liam slashing well over a minute off his time from Regions. It also was a JDS qualifier which as many of you know, are not easy to obtain.
Well done to all our athletes, you did us very proud no matter your result. The team spirit was very much alive and well!
Thank you to the parents who officiated on the weekend, and to everyone for providing fantastic support to the kids competing.
I would like to see more of our athletes compete at the regions next season, as it is a great experience, and would increase our medal chances also!
See you next season.
Regards
Darren Watts
